What has changed in Clonezilla since last year?
- New packages were added in Clonezilla live:
- Package pixz was added, and is used for parallel xz compression/decompression.
- Packages lziprecover, nwipe, efibootmgr, bcache-tools and chntpw were added.
- Packages updated
- Linux kernel was updated to 3.14 (stable Clonezilla live).
- Live-boot and live-config were updated to 3.x. The Clonezilla live was built with live-build 3.
- Partclone was updated to 0.2.70.
- Syslinux was updated to 6.3-pre11.
- Gdisk was updated to 0.8.7-1.
- Partclone-utils was updated to 0.2.1-drbl1.
- Tcplay was updated to 1.1-1.
- New features:
- P2V: A mechanism to convert image to virtual disk was added.
- A mechanism to convert image compression format was added. It can be used to convert the gz compression to xz compression, for example.
- SD card device (/dev/mmcblk0) cloning or imaging is supported.
- With the option "-k1" and "-icds" enabled, if the used data blocks are within the partition boundary, it's possible larger partition could be cloned to smaller one.
- An example gen-rec-usb was added. It could be used to create a recovery USB flash drive directly from the machine.
- Pixz is used in ocs-onthefly local to remote cloning. An option to use xz as filter program was added, too.
- Improvements:
- Better performance:
- A better disk cache mechanism was used in partclone 0.2.66+. It has been reported that the performance has been increased about 87% (2.1 GB/min -> 3.93 GB/min).
- uEFI booting support
- The uEFI secure boot is now supported in AMD64 Ubuntu-based Clonezilla live, 20131029-saucy or later. It's not supported in the Debian-based one because Debian does not release any signed EFI pre-bootloader "shim".
- A program update-nvram-efi-boot-entry was added for updating the booting device in EFI NVRAM.
- An option "-iefi" or "--ignore-update-efi-nvram" was added in in the restoring dialog menu.
- TUI and output messages
- "quiet" was added to the boot parameters. Besides, Ubuntu-based Clonezilla live now uses splash booting by default.
- A boot parameter "ocs_prompt_mode" was added so some of the prompts could be shown in TUI or CMD mode.
- The disk size info will be shown when selecting the images during restoring.
- A summary of ocs-chkimg will be shown after image is checked.
- New in image directory
- The output of blkid will be saved in the image dir as blkid.list.
- File containing the output of "efibootmgr -v" will be saved as efi-nvram.data in image dir.
- Boot parameters
- Function parse_cmdline_option of drbl-functions was updated to accept all print characters ([[:print:]]).
- Misc
- When creating a recovery zip file, if an image is included it is not compressed.
- When a recovery ISO/zip file is created, Clonezilla now honors the original splash mechanism.
- The "syslinux" and "isolinux" dirs of Clonezilla live have been unified as one dir "syslinux".
- The option "--rsyncable" was added for gzip/pigz when saving an image (https://sourceforge.net/p/clonezilla/discussion/Open_discussion/thread/8d5f80a6).
- A Dialog menu is used in the final action of Clonezilla live.
- The MAC address of a network card will be shown when configuring the network settings.
- BUG FIXES
- The boot media should not be mounted again as read-write mode in function ocs-live-env-prepare of ocs-functions. Otherwise when rebooting, due to the squashfsfs is mounted, it can not be unmounted. If you want to save the image on the boot media (USB flash drive), use "toram" option in the boot media.
- A bug has been fixed which made cnvt-ocs-dev unable to convert cciss device names to sd[a-z].
- File *sda-img.info should not be included in the partition image to be restored.
- Device name sdap1 is not the partition of sda disk.
- The allocated ramdisk size was too small when "toram" (not toram=filesystem.squashfs) option was used, some files in live CD were not copied.
- Program ocs-expand-mbr-pt will keep linux swap partition size.
- An option "sec=ntlm" was added in prep-ocsroot.
- A small font size issue in KMS mode has been improved.
- The parameter "autoproductname" should filter the characters "()[]{}".
- The grub dir name is called "grub2" for Fedora >=18, that causes check_grub_partition function failed to locate the grub partition.
